Lord Mayor's Women in Business 2021 Grant

Announced late last month, the Brisbane City Council & Brisbane Business Hub has released their "Lord Mayor's Women in Business Grant 2021", aimed at supporting female business owners to grow and develop their businesses in response to the impacts of COVID-19.

Open from 21st October 2021, the Grant program will provide eligible businesses with a once-off, unmatched payment of up to $5,000 to assist three core business units: procurement of professional services, training and education, and business equipment.

A total fund amount of $250,000 is being made available for the program, with applications open until 9 December 2021 or funding expires.

As applications are now open, we've summarised the key details and eligibility criteria for the Lord Mayor's Women in Business Grant 2021 below:

Eligibility Activities which can be Funded

Under the program, eligible activities surrounding procurement of professional services, training and education, and business equipment can be funded, which include:

Procurement of Professional Services for
  • Development of business strategy
  • Marketing and brand services
  • Ecommerce services
  • Financial services (however not bookkeeping/accounting, tax returns)
  • Compliance and industry regulations relevant to business
Training and Education
  • Certification by an RTO / TAFE
  • Professional development on leadership / business strategy
  • Financial literacy
  • Digital Marketing
  • Expert training relevant to your business
  • Costs of running or attending a convention, expo, or business learning event
Business Equipment
  • Equipment that demonstrates tangible growth for your business, tool, or
  • Product that is key in delivering your business outcomes - e.g. sewing machine for a fashion business, labelling machine for packaging, camera for photographer, etc

Please be aware, there are certain activities which will not be funded by the Grant, with a full list of those ineligible activities being available - here.

Eligibility Criteria

For those considering a submission for business funding, eligibility criteria outline businesses must have/be:

  • an active Australian Business Name (ABN) and be registered in Queensland;
  • headquarters based in the Brisbane Local Government Area and be able to provide rates notices / utility bills / proof of location;
  • Annual turnover between $50,000 - $500,000;
  • Australian Resident / Citizen;
  • Must be a woman in business with a minimum of 50% ownership in the business;
  • 18 years of age or older at the time of application;
  • Operating / trading for 12 months prior to the date of the Grant opening (21/10/21) and demonstrate more than one (1) client;
  • Not be insolvent or have owners / Directors that are an undischarged bankrupt
