Following the ‘Disaster Recovery Payment’ program released in support of those affected by the South-East Queensland floods, further financial aid has now been released through the ‘Disaster Recovery Allowance – February 2022’ payment program.
The ‘Disaster Recovery Allowance’ is a short-term payment to support those whose income has been directly impacted by the disaster. Under the program, eligible persons will receive a short-term allowance for a maximum of 13 weeks from the date you start losing income as a direct result of the South-East Queensland floods in February 2022.
The program will provide a payment of the maximum equivalent rate of the JobKeeper Payment or Youth Allowance, dependent on personal circumstance.
It is important to note, that where an individual’s income exceeds the average Australian weekly income amount of $1,737.10, a zero payment will be made.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to receive the Disaster Recovery Allowance payment, eligible individuals must meet the following criteria:
- 16 years' or older at the time of the floods;
- Are an Australian Resident or hold an eligible visa;
- Work or live in an affected Local Government Area;
- Lost income as a direct result of the storms or floods;
- Earn less than the average Australian weekly income ($1,737.10) in the weeks after you had income loss
Those aged between 16 and 21 years' old, must be deemed to be 'independent' - considering:
- Income;
- Personal Circumstances;
- If you're dependent on anyone, such as an adult who has legal responsibility for your care and provides financial assistance.

In order to apply for the Allowance, eligible persons must claim online via MyGov linked to CentreLink.
