QLD Disaster Recovery Grant | February / March Flood Response Support

In response to the impacts of the recent South-East Queensland rainfall and flooding, the Queensland Government has announced the release of its ‘Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants’, designed to support affected small businesses in their recovery.

Applications for the Grant are now open, with the program aimed at providing small businesses with funding to cover the cost of the recovery process.

Key Details

The maximum total grant amount of $50,000 is available to businesses within the defined disaster area directly impacted by the rainfall/flooding event between 22 February - 7 March 2022. The support amount can be applied for in two separate applications, through:

  • an initial amount of up to $15,000 available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices, and official receipts is required.
  • a subsequent amount of up to $35,000 available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required.

Applications for the program close on 5th September 2022 and can be submitted via the QRIDA website (www.qrida.qld.gov.au). 

How the Grant Assistance Program can be used to Assist?

Eligible clean-up, reinstatement activities, and emergency measures include:

  • equipment and materials to undertake clean-up;
  • additional labour costs (above and beyond normal wage expenditure - ie. day-to-day staffing);
  • disposing of damaged goods and stock, including associated costs;
  • repairs to buildings (other than housing)
  • reconditioning / repairing essential plant and equipment
  • purchase or hire / lease costs for equipment essential to the immediate resumption of the business
  • payment for tradespeople to conduct safety inspections
  • essential repairs to premises and internal fittings that is not covered by insurance

To be eligible for assistance, your business must be located in one of the defined disaster areas outlined below:

  • Brisbane City Council
  • Fraser Coast City Council
  • Gladstone Regional Council
  • Gold Coast City Council
  • Goondiwindi Regional Council
  • Gympie Regional Council
  • Ipswich City Council
  • Lockyer Valley Regional Council
  • Logan City Council
  • Moreton bay Regional Council
  • Noosa Shire Council
  • Redland City Council
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council
  • Somerset Regional Council
  • South Burnett Regional Council
  • Southern Downs Regional Council
  • Sunshine Coast Regional Council
  • Toowoomba Regional Council

Eligibility Criteria - Am I Eligible for the Grant?

To be eligible for the Grant, you must:

  • be a small business owner
  • hold an Australian Business Number and have held that ABN at the time of the eligible disaster
  • own a small business located in the defined disaster area for the eligible disaster that has suffered direct damage as a result of the eligible disaster
  • have been engaged in carrying on the small business when affected by the eligible disaster
  • be primarily responsible for meeting the costs claimed in the application, and 
  • intend to re-establish that small business in the defined disaster area of the eligible disaster 

How to Apply?

To apply for the Grant assistance program, applications must be submitted via the QRIDA website (www.qrida.qld.gov.au) - containing relevant document of the impact, including: rates notices / lease agreements, photographs of damage, evidence of payment, and details of insurance.
